Tokyo Motor show is the event where Japan’s major automakers release details about the latest concept cars and motorcycle models they plan to unveil. The 41st Tokyo Motor Show will be held from Oct. 23 to Nov. 8, 2009 at Makuhari Messe, Chiba, Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) will host the event.
This year’s theme for Tokyo Motor Show is ‘Fun Driving for Us, Eco Driving for Earth’. Japanese car makers like Honda, Nissan, Mazda, Toyota and Motorcycle makers Yamaha, Suzuki will participate in this grand motor show.
Tokyo Motor Show 2009 will also offer visitors the opportunity to test-ride the next generation vehicles so as to arouse their interest in these cars to influence their buying decision. Some models at this motor show will be for test-ride only. The participating staff would include drivers who will explain the cars’ controls and features. The course will run on an approximately 3 km stretch of public roads around the venue. Participation will be on a first-come first-served basis, with ticket distribution by category on the same day. Twenty six vehicles from six different companies are scheduled to be available for test drive.
This year major Japanese car manufacturers Honda Nissan and Toyota will introduce their electric vehicles in the Green Car category in this event.
- Nissan will unveil Land Glider, Leaf (electric car) and Nissan Roox “super space” minicar .
- Toyota FT-EV II, an ultra-compact electric vehicle and FT-86 will be the debutant by Toyota.
- Honda EV-N and Honda Skydeck concepts will be introduced in this motor show.
- Daihatsu will be launching Deca Deca concept car model at the Tokyo Motor show along some five other models from the manufacturer.
- Mazda plans to exhibit an updated version of the Kiyora, a compact and lightweight concept car first unveiled in 2008, as well as Taiki concept car.
Due to recession and adverse economic conditions, major Japanese truck makers such as Mitsubishi Fuso, Hino Motors, Nissan Diesel have decided not to participate in Tokyo Auto Show this year. Also, foreign automakers such as General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. , Chrysler LLC , Porsche SE and Daimler AG will not participate in this event this year. The only foreign companies showing off their cars will be Hyundai, Ferrari/Maserati, Lotus of Britain and Alpina Burkard Bovensiepen of Germany.
